Climate Resilient Gardens and Landscapes

We design, create and restore spaces that are rich in biodiversity, rooted in place and shaped by the people who use them.
Whether it's transforming a school ground, developing a community garden, restoring neglected land or creating a therapeutic landscape, we work alongside communities, organisations and landowners to bring nature back into everyday life.
Every project begins by listening. We take time to understand the landscape, the aspirations of the people involved and the opportunities the site presents. From there, we develop practical, nature-led solutions that balance ecological value with human wellbeing.
Our team and network of associates bring together expertise in landscape design, horticulture, ecology, community engagement and project delivery. We can support projects from the earliest ideas through to long-term stewardship.

NatureScape Projects

    Kate's Place

    Originally transformed into a thriving nature-rich community space in 2020, Kate's Place NaturEscape was once a neglected mini-golf site, redeveloped through a partnership between The Nature Effect CIC, Flo's – The Place in the Park, Oxford City Council, and local residents. Today, it is a well-used community space, enjoyed daily by local residents, a nearby nursery, volunteers, and community groups for play, learning, nature connection, and events.

    St. Francis School

    At St Francis School, we transformed an underused outdoor space into an immersive, accessible garden where children can play, learn, grow food, and connect with nature. The garden features pollinator-friendly planting, a rain garden, wildflower meadow, outdoor learning area, and natural play spaces, supporting both biodiversity and children's wellbeing.

    The Story Museum

    With not a bird, a tiny insect or a green leaf on-site, the fabulous Story Museum was in need of a bit of ‘wilding’.  Our NaturEscape our brief was to install planters with underplanting to create a pocket-sized whispering wood as the first stage of the greening up project.

    St Nicholas School

    At St Nicholas Primary School in Marston, we worked with pupils, staff, and volunteers to create an accessible woodland learning and play space from an overgrown, underused boundary area. The project provides dedicated zones for Forest School, imaginative play, outdoor learning, and biodiversity, with a particular focus on supporting early years pupils and children with special educational needs and disabilities.

    Inside Out

    The Inside Out Project at HMP Bullingdon created therapeutic garden spaces to support wellbeing, rehabilitation, and family connection for men in custody. The project established an internal garden for the Incentivised Substance-Free Living unit, transformed the Visitor Centre garden into a welcoming space for families. The project continues via our Natureconnect stream.

    Iffley Fields

    We are working with the Iffley Fields Community and Oxford City Council to reimagine the Meadow Lane recreation area as a co-created NaturEscape, designed to benefit both people and the environment.
