The Story

Following the creation of Kate’s Place through the NaturEscape programme, we wanted to continue supporting the site as a thriving, community-led space for nature, wellbeing, and connection. Thanks to the support of Kate’s Garden Fund, we now offer regular Community Engagement Days, bringing people together to care for the landscape, learn new skills, and enjoy time outdoors.

These sessions build on Kate’s vision for the space as a place where people and nature can flourish together. They provide opportunities for local people to get involved in the ongoing stewardship of the site, helping it continue to grow while creating meaningful opportunities for connection and shared experiences

Impact

Community days include practical activities such as scything, hedge trimming, and meadow care, alongside family-friendly nature activities including open-fire cooking, pond dipping, bird feeder making, and nature art.

The sessions have been hugely popular, attracting families, individuals, and new visitors to Kate’s Place. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with people valuing the opportunity to take part in something local, hands-on, and community-driven.

We are especially grateful to our session leaders for their creativity and to GoodGym for supporting with larger practical tasks. These ongoing days help build a sense of stewardship, connection, and belonging around Kate’s Place, ensuring the garden remains a welcoming, nature-rich space for the whole community.
